ABR or BERA testing often used interchangeably, is a test where electrodes are placed into a patient’s face to track brain activity as sound passes through the ear. this test can track a peak called peak 5 which identifies the lowest sound the child can hear.

Before a BERA test, the child has to be in a deep sleep and so a sedative of a prescribed dosage by a paediatrician is administered. Another prerequisite is the child should not have a cold, cough, fever, or any upper respiratory tract infection. The child should be healthy when they come in for a BERA test.
